On the computer being tested
The keyboard, trackpad, screen, touch, speaker, microphone and camera tests run inside the browser. Key presses are used only to light the on-screen keys; the microphone level and camera picture are shown on screen and never recorded or sent. The browser asks before the microphone or camera turns on, and both turn off when you press Stop or leave the page.
What reaches this site
- When you press See the verdict: your answers, the numbers shown on the report and the optional name, price, battery health and notes you typed. They are used to work out the verdict and are not kept.
- When you save to a Report Shelf: the same report, stored until you delete it or the shelf goes unopened for 400 days. No name, email or account. We store only a scrambled form (SHA-256) of your shelf link, so we cannot find your shelf for you.
- For the network test: five tiny requests to this site.
- To stop abuse, counters keyed to a salted hash of your network address, deleted after two days. Server logs kept by the host for a short time.
No advertising, no analytics, no tracking cookies. One cookie protects forms against forgery. Nothing is sold or shared.
Do not type passwords or personal details into the name or notes boxes: anyone with the shelf link (or a share link) can read them.
